And unlike those older games, it doesn't require huge amounts of tweaking and technical savvy to get TS3 to run on an operating system it wasn't designed for (Windows has been an NT kernel since 2002 or so). They keep selling it for the same reason that they keep selling the original Deus Ex or the older Elder Scrolls games or whatever: people want to play it. This is not to claim that the game is perfect (it isn't), but only that I've had to spend more time tweaking and fiddling in order to get Bethesda games to work properly after installation than I've had to spend troubleshooting this one.

The biggest problem that you'll encounter with the game once everything is in and working properly is realizing that it has its little quirks, so you learn what those little quirks are and how to work with/around them. I needed to reset one of my Sims last night, for example, but the last time that I needed to do that was a couple or three months ago and the process took all of about 5 seconds. There are occasionally (very occasionally) times when something goes hinky. It's an annoyance at worst and graphics drivers normally only need updating if you are trying to do something that requires an updated one (2018 game probably doesn't run well on 2012 drivers). I've don't recall enountering a problem that was caused by a change to the operating system (it runs about as well on Win10 as it did on Win7 and Vista) aside from the game's tendency to revert to default settings whenever I update my graphics driver. This is usually player-created content of some sort. There really is not much 'troubleshooting' to do as most issues crop up when the game is first installed (sub-par hardware, missing dependencies, that kind of thing) or they crop up with the player adds something that does not play nicely in the sandbox. I've been playing the game for a bit more than 4 years now.
